Has your dream ever been to live in Alaska? Our aprox. 3075 square feet (1-3 bedroom) home on 2.96 acres is a passive solar, straw bale structure ten minutes from Fairbanks. This home is both a 5-star Alaska energy plus rated home and is the Alaskan home example (2004) on the homes-across-america.org website. This home was also a test home for the Cold Climate housing research center, Fairbanks, AK who provided sensors that monitor the performance of the home.
The home is engineered for maximum sun year round, even on the shortest day of the year. South facing exposure allows one to see the Alaska Range on all three levels. The large deck is accessible from the living and bedroom patio doors. With few close neighbors, we have exceptional unpolluted (light) views of the Northern Lights.
The walk in level features a 2 1/2 garage and a 617 sq ft efficiency / mother-in-law area with separate entrance .We are presently renting this apartment for $ 875. The area has a full kitchen with dishwasher, washer and dryer, 3/4 bath and more than adequate storage. This area would also make an additional bedroom

The home is handicapped accessible with two stair lifts and spacious 3/0, 6 panel doors, throughout the home. Even if you are not handicapped, the lifts make an excellent way to get groceries upstairs.

Good water is a premium in Alaska. We have excellent tasting well water with great flow rates. Septic system was pumped in 2015. We also have water catchment which is used to water the garden and shrubs. The entire home is heated with a radiant heat system with thermostats in seven separate areas.
GCI is our current provider of internet, TV and phone. With new fiber optic cable, the internet is fast and reliable.
There is ample cleared parking area as well as three storage units. A stand alone Greenhouse offers excellent opportunities for starting plants in early spring. The outside area landscaped with mature lilac bushes and rock garden.
We are close to multi purpose walking/biking paths in summer an skiing/snow machine trails in the winter.
The Aspenwood Home has been carefully planned and constructed. All phases of construction are documented. Floor plans are stamped and approved for building codes. All information about appliances, materials used etc are available. We have had no problems with financing or home insurance.
Our home is a amazing. We are far enough out of town for that feeling of being in the wilderness but close enough to the main paved road to make it possible to go shopping within a 10 minute easy drive.
